The Morgantown Pizza Tour

Tasting 24 WV Pizzerias, Slice by Slice

No rankings, just reviews. I’m ordering the same pie at each stop: half-cheese, half pepperoni, mushroom, and onion. This combo gives me a taste of each signature sauce, melt, and topping quality. This tour will highlight the best crusts, toppings, sauces, and of course, ranch dressing.

My opinion on a #1 spot stays blank until I’ve tried a true winner at the end of the tour! The rest of the pizzerias are listed by date tried. If I have eaten at a location in the past but not ordered the regulation half-cheese / half pepperoni, mushroom, and onion order, I will review as-is for the sake of timing, but will revisit for official notes.

    Toppings: fresh af, house-mozz

    Ranch: you don’t get that here

  • It’s something about a simple sauce that the fresh mozzarella and basil melt into, folded between a brick oven-fired, bready crust. Gotta eat it fresh, though.

  • I remember getting a regular pizza with the rangoon special in 2019 when I first moved here. I never got a non-special pizza from Homegrown since. This is marked to try again!

  • I love the people, I love the place, I love the story, I love their pizza (and the beer).

  • Crust: thin, crispy, classically dusted with cornmeal

    Marinara: classic red sauce

    Toppings: underneath the cheese!

    Ranch: between Picasso and 2G Bros, top 2 - will get one with every pie!

  • Good pizza, albeit a little pricey for the college-town location. Toppings are delicious and sauces, dips and breads are all homemade.

    Marinara: overshadowed by cheese

    Toppings: great pepperoni fr

    Ranch: no ranch, can get alfredo, though

  • If you want thin crust and brick-fired, this is it. I think a couple more minutes in the oven would do it justice, there are heavy of toppings to hold up!

  • I have heard from multiple sources that you’ll get super uneven toppings when you order at the Morgantown locations. When I anonymously order, I can say the same.

  • Nice consistency for a thin crust, not soggy even after travel. This is a place you order from for a big party that needs a bunch of pizzas in bulk.

    Ranch: House-made, but too watery

  • Cheese side was better. Less is more, here. Both times I went, I felt like the crust needed more time in the oven before they topped it with everything. A larger pie might have better results.

    Ranch: most unique in motown

  • People are obsessed with the ranch-fries combo and without a doubt its amazing. Add voodoo wings to that order and you’re in bar food heaven.

  • Pizza was overall tasty. I think I need to order larger pies to get a read on home-tossed crusts.
